Mark Hayes will provide a round-up of recent developments and discuss practical issues in the context of commercial transactions.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mr. Hayes is widely regarded as one of Canada’s leading information technology, e-business and privacy lawyers. His practice focuses on commercial transactions relating to information technology, electronic commerce, privacy, intellectual property, telecommunications, new media and broadcasting. Mr. Hayes also has extensive experience with regulatory matters and Canadian federal tribunals, including the Copyright Board. Mr. Hayes is recognized as one of the top Internet and e-commerce lawyers in the world by the International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers (U.K.) and Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Technology, Media & Telecommunications Lawyers. He also appears in Mondaq Business Briefing, one of the world’s leading on-line compilations of professional business advisors, and has been included in LEXPERT/American Lawyer’s ranking of the top 500 lawyers in Canada.

Mr. Hayes is on the executive of the Ontario Bar Association Privacy Section and is a member of the Electronic Commerce and Communication Council of the Information Technology Association of Canada. He was a co-author of The Cyberspace is not a No Law Land, the landmark 1997 study commissioned by Industry Canada on liability on the Internet, and is a founding member of the editorial board of Cyberspace Lawyer (U.S.). He also serves on the advisory board of Internet and E-Commerce Law in Canada. Mr. Hayes has written and lectured extensively on issues relating to entertainment law, technology and the Internet, intellectual property and privacy, and has taught intellectual property and “Cyberlaw” courses to undergraduate and graduate law students, including the “E Regulation” course he developed for Osgoode Hall Law School’s innovative Canada wide LL.M. program.

Cost for lunch: $10 for members and students, $15 for non-members, payable at the meeting. Receipts will be available. Cheques should be made payable to the Toronto Computer Lawyers’ Group.
